When's the last time you stopped to celebrate your name?

After all, a name is, in the words of renowned psychologist Gordon Allport, the "anchor point of identity." Plus research shows it's as intimately linked to our brains as an invisible limb—and can be as socially potent as our appearance or accent in shaping how others perceive and treat us.

Plus -- besides being powerful, names are ubiquitous and fun!

That's why Museum of Names has partnered with the nonprofit Names Alliance to promote Celebrate Your Name Week. This 29-year old holiday has been celebrated in dozens of countries since it was created by visionary name enthusiast Jerry Hill in the 1990s.

Our collaboration has resulted in a free 2026 implementation guide (and an affordable expanded curriculum) to help any library or group mount their own celebration for all ages. There's a list of themed days, a suggested reading list with all genres of books, and more. Check it out at www.celebrateyournameweek.org.

Get on board - bring CYNW to your local library, school, workplace, group or book club. Invite a guest speaker, hold a Zoom workshop, or just share your own name story and invite others to tell you theirs. You'll be amazed at all the richness these little groups of letters can hold.

We're looking forward to celebrating with you!
